Job Description Summary
We are actively recruiting candidates to participate in our 2025 On-site Summer Internship program. This program is roughly 12 weeks in length and will immerse you into the culture and operations of Lonza Portsmouth. The Sustainability Engineer Intern will provide technical assistance in the development and management of Utility/HVAC sustainability projects. The focus of the role is to support the team and the sustainability plan, which is built upon many projects across multiple years. These projects improve the sustainability characteristics of the site by reducing Energy, GHG, Water and Waste to meet our corporate goals.
Responsibilities may include supporting engineers in the analysis, data collection, design, contractor support and site engineering coordination in the development of sustainability initiatives. There is an opportunity to support a broad range of project types that include HVAC, Steam, Process, Water and Waste systems. These projects improve the efficiency of existing systems and create new high efficiency systems while maintaining quality and reliability of site manufacturing. The role reports to the Utilities Engineering department at the site. This position is flexible and may support other engineering partners as the demand arises.
The internship program begins Tuesday, May 27, 2025 and ends on Friday, August 15, 2025. Potential interns must be able to commit to at least 40 hours per week throughout the duration of the summer internship.
Required Education
· Completion of junior year (typically 90 credits) towards a B.S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering
· Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4) required
· Must currently be enrolled in BS or MS Academic Program
· Must be available to begin the Internship on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

About Portsmouth
Our Lonza Portsmouth site is a clinical-to-commercial, multi-product manufacturing facility located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, only 56 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. The site, which employs over 1,500 employees, is a custom manufacturer of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins using mammalian cell culture.
