Consultant, Treasury & Budgeting (Finance)

Under general supervision but working independently most of the time, the Consultant is responsible for processing and managing transactions for the Treasury & Budgeting group (T&B). This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in fund expense administration and performance reporting while identifying opportunities for process improvements.
Expense Administration
• Prepare, review, and deliver scheduled monthly, quarterly, and annual fund expense reports.
• Update, prepare, and adjust fee-based expense accruals within the Fund Accounting system.
• Track, allocate, and post expenses accurately in fund accounting records.
• Set up and process expense transactions in Web Cash Movement (WCM).
• Compile expense reports for Semi-Annual, Annual, and Prospectus reporting.
• Continuously assess and enhance controls and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Performance Reporting
• Prepare, review, and distribute scheduled monthly, quarterly, and annual fund performance reports.
• Respond to ad hoc fund performance data requests from clients and internal departments.
• Prepare, review, and submit monthly SEC Yield reports.
• Maintain the Confluence Performance System to ensure accurate and timely NAV dissemination.
• Validate fund performance data for Annual and Semi-Annual Reports, Prospectuses, and Statements of
Additional Information (SAIs).
• Support onboarding initiatives by ensuring seamless integration of new funds and processes.
General Responsibilities
• Ensure team and departmental goals for accuracy and timeliness are consistently met.
• Escalate critical issues to management and relevant stakeholders promptly.
• Maintain and review roles, responsibilities, and deadlines for assigned relationships.
• Adhere to core operational procedures, checklists, and client-specific processes.
• Execute complex tasks with significant financial, client, and business impact.
• May interact with committees and senior management on key initiatives.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor for junior team members.
• May oversee day-to-day work of junior employees, providing guidance as needed.
• Possess deep technical expertise in the field and broad knowledge of related areas.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in fund or investment accounting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.
Salary Range:
$66,700 - 113,300 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
