Exhibit Fabricator and Installer II (Creative Design)

Your hands-on expertise in fine finish construction techniques, CNC machining, and production team leadership will enhance the museum's in-person experiences. You bring experience as a museum preparator/installer (or similar), and offer a keen eye for reading and interpreting engineering and construction documents. This position works collaboratively to develop, maintain, and creatively solve problems across various projects. The cyclical flow of temporary exhibitions, permanent exhibition maintenance, and special projects drive the work for this dynamic role. You will be responsible for leading internal and external production teams throughout the lifecycle of our exhibitions.

Job Class: Full Time
Hiring Range: $27-$31 hourly
Work Schedule: 6:00am – 2:30pm Onsite in Denver, CO. Primarily weekdays with some weekend and holiday shifts during large installations.

Essential Duties

  • Leads and supports internal and external production teams in preparing galleries for exhibit installation, exhibit maintenance, and exhibit dismantling process.
  • Creates and fabricates exhibit products that meet professional standards for quality, safety and durability, enhancing the audience experience.
  • Utilizes table saws, router (handheld and table), bandsaw, jigsaw, drill press, chop saw, CNC machine and various hand tools to shape, and assemble exhibit components, meeting design specifications while working with various materials, including wood, plastics, and composites.
  • Orders building materials and supplies on a per project basis. Including CNC specific materials.
  • Cleans and maintains carpentry workshop, temporary and permanent exhibits, including repair of exhibit components and annual deep cleaning of exhibition spaces.
  • Participates in Staff Inflection, Employee Engagement Team, and DEAI focused events.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • 3 years' experience as museum exhibit preparator/installer or equivalent experience. Wood fabrication experience is required, and experience in construction, finish carpentry, art installation, framing, or designing and making artifact/specimen mounts may be considered as equivalent experience.
  • 2 years' experience with CNC programs to control machining operations based on design specifications, and proficiency using CNC Software (vcarve or similar). Ability to program and operate.
  • 2 years' experience reading and interpreting engineering, production and shop drawings and defining parts from those drawings to be able to machine and assemble parts as required.
