Director of Strategy (Finance)
JOB SUMMARY
The Strategy Director is an influential leadership role responsible for interpreting the Board of Trustees' three-year strategic plan into actionable business initiatives. This individual will partner with relevant divisions to develop and implement business plans that align with organizational goals, monitor progress, and report on the success of strategic initiatives. By driving alignment and execution across departments, the Director of Strategy will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and progress of the organization while adhering to its mission and values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Act as a key partner with the Board of Trustees, the Board's Governance Consultant, and Executive Leadership to analyze, interpret, understand, and prioritize the organization's strategic plan.
In partnership with Executive Leadership and Directors, lead the development of a business plan translating the 3-year strategic plan into SMART, actionable goals and objectives in consideration of PERA's vision, mission, and values.
Partner with relevant divisions to build, execute, and refine business plans that support the strategic plan. Collaborate to ensure effective resource management and timely delivery of applicable projects.
Develop and establish metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of strategic initiatives.
Develop tracking and reporting mechanisms to continuously monitor progress towards achievement of strategic plan goals and objectives.
Provide detailed reports and updates to the Board of Trustees and Executive Leadership.
Foster strong relationships with internal (such as Government Relations, Communications, and cross-organizational divisions) and external stakeholders (such as employers, members, and legislators), as applicable, to ensure alignment and support for strategic objectives.
Act as a key point of contact and trusted partner for divisions developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
Work with Executive Leadership, Directors and division staff to identify and develop risk mitigation activities that may impact the successful implementation of initiatives from the strategic plan.
Influence teams and individuals to align with organizational goals without direct authority.
Provide, for consideration, information to staff engaged on a project of any opportunities for enhancing processes and workflows to support the strategic plan.
Stay informed on industry trends and best practices, incorporating them into organizational strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Strategic Management, or a related field, with 8 years of experience in strategic planning, business development, or a related field, with a proven track record of successfully implementing strategic initiatives; or a combination of education and experience.
Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Advanced knowledge of strategic frameworks (including but not limited to the Balanced Scorecard Methodology, SWOT, STEEPLE analysis, or the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) framework, etc.) is strongly preferred.
Expertise in strategy development and business planning with the ability to create data-driven strategies and actionable plans.
Certification in strategic planning or strategic management, project management or change management is preferred.
Experience with data visualization and project management software tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, etc. is preferred.
Experience in the pension or financial services industry is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Leadership experience with cross-functional teams.
Ability to think critically and strategically.
Stakeholder engagement and relationship-building expertise.
Commitment to integrity and accountability.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard office environment with frequent telephone and virtual communication, computer operation, and other office productivity machinery, such as a copier and printer.
Occasional moving and positioning supplies in excess of 20 pounds.
All employees are expected to present themselves in a professional manner in alignment with the financial services industry.
HYBRID WORK OPTION
Opportunity to work from home up to 2 days per week. Eligibility dependent upon factors detailed in PERA's Work from Home Policy.
