Underwriter Casualty (Finance)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Primary Casualty Underwriter to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will evaluate, price, and manage primary casualty risks across various industries, working closely with wholesale brokers to develop profitable business. This position requires a strong technical background in casualty underwriting, a keen understanding of E&S markets, and the ability to assess and structure coverage for unique or challenging risks.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Evaluation & Underwriting: Assess and underwrite primary casualty risks, including general liability, products liability, and liquor liability. Broker Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive profitable business and identify new opportunities. Pricing & Negotiation: Determine appropriate rates, terms, and conditions in accordance with company guidelines and market trends. Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage a book of business to ensure profitability and adherence to underwriting strategies. Policy Structuring: Customize coverage forms, endorsements, and policy terms to meet the unique needs of E&S clients. Market Analysis: Stay informed of industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes impacting the E&S casualty market. Collaboration: Work with actuarial, claims, and legal teams to ensure sound risk selection and policy wording.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience: 3-7+ years of casualty underwriting experience, preferably within an E&S environment. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of primary general liability and products liability exposures across various industries. E&S Knowledge: Understanding of the non-admitted insurance market, including forms, filings, and coverage nuances. Broker Network: Existing relationships with wholesale brokers is a plus. Analytical & Decision-Making Skills: Ability to assess risks and make sound underwriting decisions in a fast-paced environment. Communication & Negotiation: Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with brokers and internal teams.
