Position Summary
This position oversees task completion by providing the daily work instructionsfor the Custodial team, as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor. The position provides quality checks to ensure all custodial staff complete tasks appropriately, and may act as a mentor, trainer, and model to the Custodial team.
The position is responsible for cleaning andmaintainingall areas of the Museum for our guests, staff and volunteers, and it ensures a positive presentation of the Museum facilities.Under general supervision the position provides an exceptional level of cleaning to achieve and maintain a clean, safe, healthy, attractive environment for our guests, volunteers and staff.
Job Class:Full Time Hiring Range:$22.50 (+ $0.75/hour Shift Differential from 4pm-12am+ $1.00/hour Language Differential if Spanish/English Bilingual)
Shift:3:30pm – 12am Direct Reports:No direct reports but functions as a Lead Custodian when a supervisor is not on duty
Essential Duties
Serves as daily lead to ensure accurate and timely completion of Custodian I dutiesin accordance with DMNS cleaning specifications.
Serves as a lead to the custodial staff both in expertise and in work ethic, providing a strong positive example of best practices.
Provides daily report of accomplishments/issues.
Ensures tripping, and/or other safety hazards are immediately reported to supervisor and /or removed as appropriate, following all proper procedures.
Ensures all trash is picked up on the grounds daily.
Performs quality checks on all custodial and event tasks to ensure satisfactory completion by the Custodial team.
Provides training as needed for other Custodians.
Is proficient in floor care equipment and methods.
Performs cleaning duties requiring use of heavy and technical equipment and supports special projects as assigned.
Cleans guest and staff office areas, including emptying trash, dusting, vacuuming, windows, etc. to ensure consistently clean and safe presentations.
Assists the Custodial team as needed to accomplish custodial and other tasks.
Maintains a positive, helpful, and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members, guests, staff and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
6 months of custodial experience.
18 years of age or older.
Evening/night/weekend and on-call work as needed.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to accommodate museum activities.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Working knowledge of cleaning equipment including floor and carpet cleaning machines and floor extraction techniques preferred.
Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Working Conditions - Must have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the working conditions and physical demands of the position:
Ability to work in crowded conditions in busy public spaces, including restocking restrooms, spot cleaning and removing trash.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time, up to 90% of the time.
Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching continuously throughout a shift.
Ability to walk from one work area to another and can cover distances of 5 miles per shift in the complex.
Seasonal exposure to heat and cold is encountered when working outdoors. May be exposed to extreme heat (above 100 degrees) or cold (below 32 degrees) for periods of more than 1 hour.
Visual acuity to work with machinery and tools.
Capable of pushing and pulling a cleaning cart, or various equipment (over 100 lb.) on tile and carpeted floors continuously throughout a shift.
Capable of pushing and pulling furniture and equipment (25 – 100 lb.) frequently.
May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, norovirus and fecal material.
Must be able to handle/interact with all chemicals used (i.e., bleach, wax, Virex, etc.).
Must be willing and able to withstand exposure to dust and fumes associated with cleaning agents.
