ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Division of Student Success at the University of South Florida is focused on providing students with student support, co-curricular engagement opportunities, a robust campus life, health & wellness services and enhancement of the educational experience. Within the division, the Office of Student Engagement provides holistic co-curricular experiences for students to engage outside of the classroom, as well as encourages relationship building and personal and professional growth. Student Engagement promotes student success by facilitating social development, cultural awareness, and community engagement. Collaboration with University personnel is extremely important to effectively serve our students and support staff.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Student Engagement will develop, organize, and deliver programs and initiatives to enhance the student life and university experience. This position is responsible for coordinating programs that align with the Office of Student Engagement's (OSE) goals and initiatives, specifically in the areas of civic engagement and volunteerism. This position will co-advise the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board, and will have the opportunity to supervise student employees. In addition, all members of the Student Engagement team work collaboratively on most large-scale programs and campus traditions including, but not limited to, Week of Welcome, USF Week, and Campus Involvement & Leadership Awards. May serve as representative on committees and councils on behalf of the Sarasota-Manatee campus student engagement team. Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement for Sarasota-Manatee. Some evening or weekend hours are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Civic Engagement and Volunteerism:
Provide direct oversight of the civic engagement and volunteer programming initiatives for the Sarasota-Manatee campus. Provide opportunities for civic engagement and volunteerism, while coordinating service projects and events based on students' needs, interests, and availability. Advise and coordinate the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program. Recruit student participants, coordinate trip logistics, develop and implement pre-trip program, and assess participant learning. Develop and maintain a database of local volunteer opportunities.
Campus Activities Board:
Provide oversight of the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to student workers, including hiring, training, professional development, and performance evaluation. The Coordinator will serve as co-advisor and assist with advising CAB student leaders.
Student Government Advising:
Serve as a co-advisor to the Student Government Association at the Sarasota-Manatee campus. Assist with providing training, mentorship and guidance to the branches within Student Government and individual Student Government officers on Student Government operations, conflict resolution, leadership, and teamwork. Specifically, directly advise the Judicial Branch of Student Government comprised of the Supreme Court, its committees, and/or its justices. Coordinate work across all three USF campuses. Attend meetings and serve as campus advisor for the Judicial Branch and Election Rules Commission (ERC) at the Sarasota-Manatee campus, as well as host one-on-one's with direct advisees.
Co-Curricular Programming:
Work collaboratively with the Office of Student Engagement team to create and implement co-curricular programming to address the needs and interests of the student body, including large-scale campus events, keynote student events, campus activities and traditions, and OneUSF initiatives. Implement a co-curricular programming model based on the current needs of campus commuter and residential students. Coordinate with the Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement (CLCE) (or equivalent) at the other USF campuses for any OneUSF needs or initiatives. Additionally, work with other campus Student Success staff for outreach events, such as orientation and admissions programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM: This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED: Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Affairs, or related field. One year of experience supervising student staff.
