ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Center for Onchocerciasis Diagnostics is housed in the Center for Global Health and Interdisciplinary Research in the USF Interdisciplinary Research Building. IDRB provides office, classroom and laboratory facilities for faculty, non-tenure earning faculty, postdoctoral scholars, visiting scientists, staff, students, and other employees and volunteers. Research is supported by competitive sponsored research agreements and contracts.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Scientific Researcher collaborates with the principal investigator on research projects and designs, performs a variety of controlled research protocols pertaining to research associated with disease surveillance, treatment and control. The Scientific Researcher collects and analyzes data on research projects, and co-authors research reports and publications. Work at this level requires a minimum MPH or equivalent graduate degree with at least two years of relevant research and writing experience. This position will also require a minor amount of administrative duties such as capacity building reports, supply procurement and drafting administrative forms.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research duties and obligations of the appointment will be determined in
accordance with the needs of the Center for Onchocerciasis Diagnostics. Research includes data analysis obtained from vector surveillance and results from samples obtained from onchocerciasis endemic foci.
Develop research project plans and oversee experimental protocols within the framework of the research objectives in collaboration with the Principle
Investigator.
Research duties may include mentoring students and writing for peer-reviewed publications.
Administrative duties will include supply receiving and management, and Capacity building support for the onchocerciasis elimination program satellite entities and the funding collaborators.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Master's degree in a natural science related to the specific area of research and two years of research experience. Doctoral study in a directly related field may substitute for the required experience.
PREFERRED:
MPH or MSPH in Global Communicable Diseases or equivalent Master's degree in medical science or related field. Demonstrates proficiency in research associated with disease surveillance, treatment and control. Familiarity with testing platforms such as ELISA and RT-PCR. Proficiency with Excel, skilled in data management. Experience supporting international collaborations. Candidates with training in microbiology, RT-PCR, ELISA and recombinant protein production and those with at least two years of laboratory research and writing experience encouraged to apply.
