Park Maintenance Worker - Parks (Finance)
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has an opportunity for a Park Maintenance Worker - Parks, who will be assigned to the Rancho Jurupa Park team, located in Jurupa Valley.
The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks is a first professional level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. This classification is characterized by having as its primary function the performance of buildings and grounds maintenance duties. Incumbents may occasionally perform public contact duties such as answering questions of park users regarding park facilities and informing users of park rules and regulations.
The duties for this position include clearing and maintaining trails, conducting irrigation system maintenance and repair, as well as operating small to heavy equipment. The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks will also assist with construction projects, manage restroom upkeep and trash removal, and oversee work release participants.
Within this role, candidate may be exposed to various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, and wind) and wildlife (raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, skunks, squirrels, wild pigs, and rattlesnakes). Candidate may also encounter insects (bees, mosquitos, and fire ants), noxious plants (poison oak), weather components (dust, dirt, and pollen), and noise from equipment (chainsaws and mowers).
Competitive candidates will possess landscaping preventative maintenance experience, as well as professional experience with electrical and plumbing; supervisory experience, as well as building and grounds maintenance and building repair experience highly desired.
Class A driver's license preferred.
Work Schedule:
The position follows a 4/10 schedule with daily shifts from Friday to Monday, 6:30 am -5:00 pm. Regular days off will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Clear and maintain trails (duties will require the use of chainsaws and hand tools to remove dead trees and branches).
• Conduct irrigation system maintenance and repair.
• Operate small-heavy equipment and utility vehicles (small tractor, utility carts, etc.).
• Oversee work release participants.
• Participate in construction projects for building repairs.
• Participate in routine restroom upkeep and trash management.
• Perform general maintenance of camp and picnic areas (duties include removing trash and debris from the lake and shoreline, and clearing brush and weeds throughout park grounds).
• Perform general grounds and landscaping maintenance (duties include mowing, raking, cleaning, and watering the park grounds, as well as planting, trimming and caring for trees).
• Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs (duties include unclogging drains and addressing sewage lift stations).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of performing grounds or building maintenance and repair, landscape gardening, or as a Park Attendant with the County of Riverside Parks Department. (College level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience).
Knowledge of: Common tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
Ability to: Read and follow written instructions and write simple reports; perform a variety of routine grounds, building, equipment, and vehicle preventive maintenance and repair; operate equipment, and learn procedures and safety techniques used in performing maintenance and minor construction projects; deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
General Requirements A Class C Driver's License is required for this position. The Park Maintenance Worker will operate a variety of equipment, including small-heavy machinery, utility vehicles and a county issued truck, to complete daily tasks.
Physical Environment
The Park Maintenance Worker role involves traversing over and working on uneven terrain; manipulating hand tools and equipment; exposure to varied and inclement weather; handling chemicals; adhering to welding safety; managing noise levels; and moving heavy objects (with or without reasonable accommodation).
Some Regional Park and Open-Space District Park Maintenance Worker - Parks positions are designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive.
For positions which been designated by the DOT as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
