Business Development Manager (US Protein-Based Therapies) (Biotech)

As part of the Protein-Based Therapies team, the Business Development Manager (US Protein-Based) plays a key role in maintaining and growing Lonza's US business for its CHO-based media portfolio, as well as developing new business for Lonza IP, third-party IP, and Buffer media. This high-value, strategic position drives sales by managing existing accounts and cultivating new business on the East Coast, with a focus on the Boston R&D market. The role also provides technical support, gathers market insights, and collaborates with Lonza's Biologics CDMO, Licensing, Product Management, and Program Management teams. As a senior individual contributor, the manager owns the full sales cycle, leveraging internal resources to drive success.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately forecasts and achieves quarterly and annual sales targets.
Builds and manages the sales funnel, from lead generation to closing deals.
Demonstrates deep understanding of Lonza's Bioscience portfolio and effectively communicates the value proposition to customers.
Recognized as an expert in product knowledge, applications, regulatory requirements, and product justification.
Understands market dynamics, competitive landscape, and assigned accounts.
Develops new business by prospecting and leveraging multi-channel strategies (cold calling, networking, social media, events).
Builds and maintains strong relationships with key decision-makers, ensuring long-term, sustainable business.
Communicates market trends, competitive activities, and customer feedback to senior management, product teams, and R&D.
Organizes, plans, and schedules time for effective account and territory coverage.
Ability to travel up to 50%, records activities and client information in CRM, and contributes to process improvements within the company.
Key Requirements:
A master's degree or PhD in Biology or a related Life Science field.
Extensive experience in Sales/Business Development, laboratory, technical, or manufacturing roles, particularly with cell culture media.
Strong core selling skills, including the ability to create customer value, negotiate, close deals, engage in consultative selling, and deliver effective presentations.
Proficiency in using CRM software, MS Office Suite, and planning/project management platforms.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.

The full-time base annual salary for this onsite position is expected to range between $135,000.00 and $157,500.00. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the successful candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge.
